Trump Commends Tinubu Over Counterterrorism Efforts, Protection of Christians

United States President Donald Trump has commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as his decisive leadership in combating terrorism and improving the protection of Christian communities in Nigeria.


In a letter dated July 6, 2026, Trump praised Tinubu's commitment to addressing insecurity, saying his administration had demonstrated determination in confronting terrorist groups and strengthening national security. He noted that the efforts had contributed to protecting vulnerable communities and restoring confidence in affected areas. 



The U.S. President reaffirmed Washington's commitment to supporting Nigeria's counterterrorism campaign through military cooperation, intelligence sharing and capacity building. He highlighted the deployment of U.S. Special Operations Forces to train Nigerian troops and referenced the U.S.–Nigeria 2026 Defence Cooperation Roadmap as a framework for deepening security collaboration between both countries. 


Trump also referred to a recent joint counterterrorism operation that reportedly led to the killing of ISIS commander Abubakar Al-Minoki in the Lake Chad region, describing it as evidence of the growing effectiveness of the partnership between Nigeria and the United States in tackling terrorism. 


He expressed confidence that continued collaboration between the two nations would further weaken terrorist networks, improve regional stability and enhance the safety of Nigerians regardless of their religious affiliation.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit. The development marks another early gain for Accord as the collation of results from polling units across Osun State continues.
