Wike-Backed PDP Faction Claims It Uploaded Presidential, National Assembly Candidates to INEC Portal

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced that it has successfully uploaded the names of its presidential, vice-presidential and National Assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal ahead of the 2027 general elections.


The faction made the disclosure on Sunday, saying the submission was completed in line with INEC's timetable for the 2027 elections. According to its officials, the successful upload followed the conclusion of its internal nomination process for the affected offices. The report did not publicly disclose the identities of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates at the time of the announcement.


The development comes amid the lingering leadership crisis within the PDP, with rival factions laying claim to the party's national leadership and the authority to conduct primaries and nominate candidates for elective offices.


The Wike-backed group expressed confidence that its actions complied with electoral guidelines and urged party members to remain united as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.


The move is expected to further deepen the internal dispute within the opposition party, as other PDP factions have also continued to assert their legitimacy and lay claim to the party's structures.


INEC has yet to issue an official statement on the competing claims within the PDP or clarify which faction's submissions, if any, will ultimately be recognised, as the commission is expected to act in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and any binding court decisions.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
