Zamfara Government Extends Maternity Leave to Six Months for Female Civil Servants

The Zamfara State Government has approved six months of fully paid maternity leave for female civil servants as part of efforts to improve maternal and child health and support exclusive breastfeeding.


The approval was announced after the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Dauda Lawal, making Zamfara one of the latest states to adopt the family-friendly policy in line with global health recommendations. 


Under the new policy, female civil servants will be entitled to six months of paid leave following childbirth, allowing them more time to recover and provide adequate care for their newborns without losing their earnings.


The government said the decision is aimed at promoting the well-being of mothers and children, encouraging exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a child's life, and improving child survival and development outcomes.


Officials noted that the policy reflects the Lawal administration's commitment to strengthening workers' welfare and investing in human capital development, particularly in the health sector. They added that relevant ministries and agencies have been directed to ensure the smooth implementation of the new maternity leave policy.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
