15,000 Police Personnel to Secure Osun Governorship Election – CP Etaifo

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the deployment of about 15,000 personnel to provide security during the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.


The Commissioner of Police in charge of the election, Samuel Etaifo, disclosed this on Wednesday in Osogbo while addressing officers deployed for the exercise. He said the security arrangement is aimed at ensuring a peaceful, credible and violence-free election across the state. 


According to Etaifo, the deployment will comprise conventional police officers, Police Mobile Force personnel, specialists, medical teams and the Police Dog Section. He added that a Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) and an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) would also be deployed to strengthen security operations during the poll. 


The police commissioner warned political actors, supporters, electoral officials and security personnel against engaging in any act capable of undermining the electoral process. He stressed that anyone arrested for serious electoral offences would be transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for investigation and prosecution. 


Etaifo assured residents that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, would remain neutral and professional throughout the election, urging voters to conduct themselves peacefully and comply with electoral laws.


The August 15 governorship election will see voters across Osun State elect a governor from among candidates fielded by 14 political parties. Security agencies have pledged to provide adequate protection for voters, election officials and materials to ensure a free, fair and credible exercise.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
