176 Abducted Kwara Victims Regain Freedom After Six Months in Captivity

The Kwara State Government has announced that the 176 residents abducted during the deadly February 3, 2026 attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area have regained their freedom after spending about six months in captivity. 

The announcement was made on Wednesday through the state's official communication channels, bringing relief to families and residents who had waited anxiously for the victims' return.

The mass abduction occurred during one of the worst attacks in Kwara State's recent history, when armed terrorists stormed the two communities, killing more than 200 people, destroying homes and businesses, and forcing many residents to flee. During the assault, 176 women and children were taken away by the attackers. 

In the months that followed, the victims remained in captivity despite repeated appeals by community leaders, civil society groups, and political stakeholders for intensified rescue efforts. The incident drew national attention, with growing pressure on both the Federal and Kwara State governments to secure their release. 

Confirming the development, the Kwara State Government expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, security agencies, and everyone involved in the operation that led to the victims' freedom. However, officials have yet to disclose details of how the release was secured or the condition of the freed victims.
