ADC Raises Alarm Over Plot to Arrest Aregbesola Ahead of Osun Election

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised the alarm over an alleged plan to arrest its National Secretary, former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.


In a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said it had received what it described as “credible reports” of plans to arrest Aregbesola in the days leading to the election. 


The party expressed concern that the alleged move could disrupt its preparations and prevent Aregbesola from coordinating the party’s electoral activities.


According to the ADC, Aregbesola, who served as Osun governor from 2010 to 2018 and later as Minister of Interior, should only be invited by any security agency through established legal procedures if there is a lawful reason to question him. 


The party argued that arresting its National Secretary on the eve of an election in which it is participating would raise serious questions about the motive behind such an action.


The ADC subsequently warned the Federal Government and security agencies against actions capable of undermining the credibility of the election or triggering political tension in Osun State.


“The eyes of Nigerians are on Osun,” the party said, urging authorities to respect democratic principles and allow all political parties to participate freely in the election. 


The party further cautioned the APC-led Federal Government against taking any action that could plunge the state into what it described as a needless crisis ahead of Saturday’s poll.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area.
