Adeleke Approves Two-Year Extension for UNIOSUN Vice-Chancellor

 Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved a two-year extension of the tenure of the Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Professor Clement Adebooye.

The extension was announced on Monday during the inauguration of the university’s reconstituted Governing Council at the Osun State Government House in Osogbo.

According to a statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, Adeleke said the extension was approved in the interest of the institution and aimed at ensuring continuity in its administration.

The governor disclosed that Adebooye initially declined the offer but later accepted to continue in office for another two years.

Adeleke said retaining the Vice-Chancellor would strengthen the university’s governance structure and prevent any administrative vacuum that could disrupt its operations.

As part of the reconstitution of the Governing Council, the governor also retained Professor Adewale Oladipo as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, citing his experience and knowledge of the university system.

Other members inaugurated into the council are Alhaji Gbadegesin Lawal, Alhaji Lateef Olalekan Olayanju, Mr Akinola Franklin Omoniyi, Chief Funminiyi Awotide, Mr Orija Samuel Adebayo, Mrs Adewale Adetayo Bola and Mrs Olawale Oludayo Abolade.

Addressing the council members, Adeleke urged them to discharge their responsibilities with humility, integrity, courage and commitment to public interest.

He specifically called for a harmonious relationship between the Governing Council and the university management, warning against the emergence of competing centres of authority.

“I charge you to work harmoniously with the Vice-Chancellor and management, stressing that the governing council and management should not operate as competing centres of authority,” the governor said.

He added that both arms of the university’s administration must operate within the law and respect their respective responsibilities while working towards the advancement of the institution.

Adeleke described UNIOSUN as “one of the enduring investments of the people of Osun State,” noting that its academic and research activities contribute to the economic, social and intellectual development of the state and Nigeria.

Speaking earlier, Oladipo, who also chaired the dissolved council, thanked the governor for retaining him and highlighted some of the achievements recorded by the previous council.

He pledged that the reconstituted council would consolidate the gains already made and work towards taking UNIOSUN to greater heights.

In his remarks, Vice-Chancellor Adebooye expressed appreciation to Adeleke, members of the Osun State Executive Council and the newly inaugurated council for their support.

He assured stakeholders that the university management would continue to work with the Governing Council and other stakeholders to sustain the institution’s growth and position UNIOSUN among leading universities in Africa and beyond.
