Adeleke Declares Friday Work-Free Day, Urges Osun Workers to Vote, Defend Their Ballots

 Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has declared Friday, August 14, 2026, a work-free day for public service workers across the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The declaration, contained in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, is aimed at giving workers sufficient time to travel where necessary and prepare to exercise their franchise in the August 15 poll.

According to the circular, the work-free day applies to all categories of public servants, except personnel engaged in emergency and other essential duties.

Meanwhile, Governor Adeleke has urged workers, their relatives and associates to turn out massively for the election and protect their votes, stressing the need for continuity in the state’s governance and development.

In a pre-election message to workers, Adeleke commended the leadership of the organised labour and Osun workers for their support for his administration, describing the relationship between the government and labour as mutually beneficial.

“The time for action has come. As formal workers at state establishments, I task you to mobilise informal workers, artisans and professional bodies. We must remain strong in defence of our constitutional rights to vote and be voted for,” the governor said.

He urged workers to protect what he described as the achievements of his administration over the past three and a half years.

“We must defend the gains of the last three and half years plus. Ours is a workers-friendly government which has delivered across board to labour and Osun people. We cannot and must not allow a return to dark days,” Adeleke added.
