Adeleke Embraces Oyebamiji’s Peace Call, Invites Oyetola, Others

 

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has welcomed the call for peace by the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, following his recent visit to President Bola Tinubu.

Adeleke described the APC candidate’s peace advocacy as a positive development after weeks of intense political campaigns and tensions that characterised the build-up to the August 15 governorship election.

The governor, who also met with President Tinubu on Thursday, said Oyebamiji’s appeal for peace was particularly important for residents who, according to him, endured fear, tension and violence during the election period.

Adeleke urged all political parties and their supporters to exercise restraint, while reflecting on what he described as a tense pre-election atmosphere across the state.

He maintained that his administration and supporters had never embraced violence as a political strategy, despite what he described as severe pressure in the days leading to the election.

The governor also alleged that 15 Accord members were killed, while 20 others were injured and several supporters were detained by the police during the period under review.

“I am forever a man of peace. It is heartwarming that my brother, Oyebamiji, is also preaching peace. I assure him that my supporters have not and will not attack APC members,” Adeleke said.

He added that the election had ended, stressing that the focus should now shift towards governance and improving the welfare of the people.

“Elections have come and gone and we are all winners. The common task for us all is to sustain delivery of democratic dividends and good governance to the good people of Osun State,” he said.

Adeleke also extended an invitation to former governor Gboyega Oyetola, Oyebamiji and other opposition leaders to work with his administration in advancing the interests of the state.

“I welcome Mr Gboyega Oyetola, Bola Oyebamiji and other opposition leaders to join hands with me to take Osun to greater heights. We are all important stakeholders in this Osun project,” the governor added.

The governor’s comments come amid efforts to ease political tensions following the conclusion of the August 15 governorship election, which saw Adeleke secure another term in office.
