Even If Tinubu Appoints Seyi as INEC Chairman, He’ll Be Defeated in 2027 — Dalung

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Solomon Dalung, has predicted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will be defeated in the 2027 presidential election, regardless of the political influence and structures available to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Dalung made the statement during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, where he reflected on the outcome of the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.

According to him, the Osun election has demonstrated that incumbency, federal influence and the political structures of the ruling party cannot automatically guarantee electoral victory.

Dalung said the outcome of the poll had confirmed his earlier prediction that Nigerians would determine the outcome of the 2027 election despite the strength of the ruling party.

He argued that the APC’s failure to secure victory in Osun, despite the presence of several senior political figures and government officials during the campaign, showed that political power could be defeated at the ballot box.

The former minister said, “Even if Tinubu appointed his wife, Remi Tinubu, as Chief Justice of Nigeria and appointed Seyi, his son, as INEC chairman, he is going to be defeated woefully in 2027.”

He added that the Osun election had laid the foundation for what Nigerians should expect in 2027, stressing that the influence of “federal might” and incumbency had been challenged by voters.

Dalung also criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his reaction to the Osun election, arguing that attention should instead be focused on the political resources deployed by the APC during the campaign.

Beyond the election, the ADC chieftain called on political leaders to prioritise the welfare of Nigerians and fulfil their constitutional responsibilities, warning against excessive concentration on personal wealth at the expense of leaving a lasting legacy.

Dalung’s comments come amid increasing political realignments and preparations by opposition parties ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
