Ex-Osun Deputy Governor Rejects Adeleke’s UNIOSUN Governing Council Appointment

 Former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Mrs Titi Laoye-Ponnle, has declined her nomination to serve on the newly reconstituted Governing Council of Osun State University (UNIOSUN).


The development was disclosed by the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, during a courtesy visit to Governor Ademola Adeleke at the Osun State Government House in Osogbo on Sunday. 


Basiru said Laoye-Ponnle was initially expected to accompany him on the visit and personally communicate her decision to the governor, but was unable to attend.


According to the APC national secretary, the former deputy governor declined the appointment because she is currently serving as the Chairman of the Governing Council of a federal institution.


“She said I should tell you she is not concerned about capacity, but she is presently the Chairman of the Governing Council of one of our federal institutions,” Basiru quoted Laoye-Ponnle as saying. 


Basiru added that the former deputy governor appreciated Adeleke for considering her for the appointment and expressed her willingness to contribute to the development of Osun State in other capacities in the future.


The development followed Adeleke’s decision to dissolve the former UNIOSUN Governing Council and constitute a new council as part of efforts to strengthen the administration and governance of the institution. 


The reconstituted council is chaired by Professor Adewale Abiodun Oladipo, who retained his position as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman.


Other members listed in the new council include Alhaji Gbadegesin Lawal, Mr Akinola Franklin Omoniyi, Chief Funminiyi Awotide, Mr Orija Samuel Adebayo and Mrs Adewale Adetayo Bola. 


Adeleke subsequently inaugurated the new council at the Government House on Monday and charged its members to build on the university’s achievements and provide the necessary support for its continued growth. 


Laoye-Ponnle’s decision means she will not serve on the newly inaugurated UNIOSUN council, despite being named among the initial nominees.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
