JAMB Gives Candidates Final 30 Days to Accept or Reject Old Admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has extended the deadline for candidates with outstanding admission offers dating from 2021 to accept or reject the offers.

The new deadline is September 30, 2026, giving affected candidates an additional 30 days to regularise their admission status.

JAMB had earlier fixed August 31, 2026, as the deadline for candidates with outstanding admission offers to indicate whether they intended to accept or reject them.

The Board’s Acting Director of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin, announced the extension in a statement on Saturday, describing it as the final opportunity for affected candidates to take action.

JAMB urged candidates with pending regular or Centralised University Information Admission offers to act before the new deadline and warned that there would be no further extension after September 30.

According to the Board, candidates who accept their outstanding admission offers will be able to proceed with the printing and collection of their admission letters.

Those who no longer wish to take up their previous offers are expected to reject them through the appropriate process, after which their admission status will be reverted to “Not Admitted” on the JAMB platform.

The Board said the measure was necessary to ensure that its national admission records accurately reflect the current status of candidates and institutions.

JAMB also clarified that candidates who have already secured admission in the ongoing 2026 admission exercise but still have previous outstanding offers can reject the old offers without affecting their current admissions.

Similarly, candidates who are no longer studying at institutions where they previously received admission offers can reject those offers and continue with their current programmes.

The Board also provided guidance for candidates who had accepted or commenced different academic programmes after receiving earlier admission offers, saying relevant corrections or deletions could be pursued where necessary.

JAMB explained that the extension was intended to help clean up its admission database and eliminate long-standing uncertainties surrounding unaccepted admission offers.

It warned that any admission offer from 2021 to date that remains neither accepted nor rejected by the September 30 deadline will automatically revert to “Not Admitted” status on its records.

The Board therefore advised all affected candidates to check their admission status and take the necessary action immediately rather than wait until the deadline.

JAMB stressed that September 30, 2026, would be the final deadline for the exercise.
