Makinde, Obi Attend Methodist Church Nigeria Conference, Call for Stronger Faith-Government Partnership

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday officially declared open the 50th/15th Biennial Conference of the Methodist Church Nigeria in Ibadan, where he was joined by the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi.


Speaking at the event, Governor Makinde described it as an honour and privilege to inaugurate the conference, commending the Methodist Church for its longstanding contributions to Nigeria's development through education, healthcare and community service.



The governor said the church has played a significant role in shaping moral values, strengthening families and inspiring hope among Nigerians, noting that its impact extends beyond spiritual leadership.


Makinde stressed that partnerships between government and faith-based organisations remain essential to national development, arguing that sustainable progress cannot be achieved through policies and infrastructure alone.


According to him, nation-building requires integrity, compassion and a shared commitment to the common good, values that religious institutions continue to promote across communities.



The conference, which attracted religious leaders, government officials and other dignitaries, also had the presence of former Anambra State Governor and NDC's 2027 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, who joined Governor Makinde and other guests at the opening ceremony.


The Methodist Church Nigeria Biennial Conference is one of the denomination's major gatherings, where delegates deliberate on issues affecting the church, society and national development.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
