Olajengbesi Withdraws Remarks Against Okpebholo, Urges Edo Governor to Speak Through Aides

Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesperson for the Adeleke Campaign Council and Accord Party candidate for Ijesa North Federal Constituency in the 2027 election, has withdrawn his earlier remarks which he said may have appeared disrespectful to the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

Olajengbesi, in a statement, said although he believed Okpebholo conducted himself in an “uncharitable manner” during his visit to Osun State for the governorship election, the election had now ended and he considered it appropriate to move forward.

He, however, advised the Edo governor to rely more on his media aides for public communication and reduce what he described as the activities of “two overzealous cheerleaders” around him whom he accused of constantly shouting, hyping and hailing the governor.

According to Olajengbesi, several eminent Nigerians and respected members of the All Progressives Congress who participated in the Osun election worked extensively for their party without publicly disrespecting Governor Ademola Adeleke or diminishing the dignity of his office.

He stressed that political disagreements should not prevent public officials and political actors from respecting government institutions and the offices occupied by elected leaders.

“I personally withdraw my earlier remarks that may have appeared disrespectful to the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo,” Olajengbesi stated.

He also urged the people of Edo State to continue holding their governor accountable, describing citizens’ oversight of elected leaders as an essential responsibility in a democratic system.

Olajengbesi’s statement comes after political exchanges between supporters of the Osun and Edo governors following the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
