Osun 2026: Imole Campaign Council Accuses Oyetola of Using Police to Arrest Accord Leaders

The Imole Campaign Council has accused the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, of allegedly using federal security institutions to target leaders and grassroots mobilisers of the Accord Party ahead of the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.

The council, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, alleged that Oyetola was behind a coordinated crackdown on key Accord Party members across the state.

According to the council, the alleged arrests were politically motivated and intended to intimidate members of the party ahead of the election.

The campaign council further alleged that Oyetola, a former governor of Osun State, was unsettled by what it described as the growing support for the Accord Party and Governor Ademola Adeleke, accusing him of attempting to use federal security agencies to suppress political opposition.

The council specifically alleged that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, was being influenced by the minister to authorise arbitrary arrests of Accord Party leaders and supporters.

However, the allegations were presented by the campaign council and no independent evidence was provided in the statement to substantiate the claim that the Inspector-General of Police was acting on Oyetola's instructions.

The council also raised concerns over the reported arrest of Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin, a serving commissioner in the Osun State Government.

It alleged that Adejoorin was subjected to degrading treatment while in police custody, claiming that officers ordered him to remove his underwear during the arrest.

Describing the alleged treatment as humiliating and unacceptable, the campaign council maintained that Adejoorin's arrest was connected to his political support for Governor Adeleke.

The council condemned what it described as the misuse of state power and federal security institutions for political purposes, insisting that the Accord Party would not be intimidated by arrests, harassment or what it called political persecution.

“No amount of state-sponsored harassment, unlawful arrests, or political witch-hunts will deter us,” the council stated.

The campaign council also appealed to the media, civil society organisations, international observers and the international community to monitor developments in Osun State and ensure that the rights of political actors and voters are protected ahead of the election.

It urged members and supporters of the Accord Party, as well as residents of Osun State, to remain calm, law-abiding and vigilant while continuing to participate in the electoral process.
