Osun 2026: ‘It’s Adeleke vs Tinubu, Not APC’ — Dele Momodu

 A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Dele Momodu, has described the August 15 Osun State governorship election as a contest between Governor Ademola Adeleke and President Bola Tinubu, rather than a battle between Adeleke and the All Progressives Congress.

Momodu made the assertion on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, while explaining his decision to support Adeleke despite being a member of the ADC.

According to him, his support for the incumbent governor is consistent with the opposition coalition agenda that influenced his decision to join the ADC.

Momodu said, “The battle in Osun is not a contest between Adeleke and the APC, it is between Adeleke and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

He further argued that the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, could not match Adeleke’s political strength in the state, claiming that even members of the Presidency were aware of the governor’s advantage.

The publisher of Ovation International also disclosed that he consulted some political elders before declaring his support for Adeleke.

Momodu acknowledged that the ADC has its own governorship candidate, Najeem Salam, but appealed to the party to allow him to back Adeleke in the election.

He said his longstanding relationship with Adeleke also influenced his decision, describing the governor as a close friend and “twin brother.”

Momodu added that Adeleke was being “bullied” and “intimidated,” urging people across political parties to support him.

He said, “Even if I was not in ADC, I would still have supported Ademola. He’s a fantastic soul. Only a wicked man will see the good work he has done in Osun State and ignore it.”

The Osun governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, with Adeleke seeking re-election against candidates including APC’s Bola Oyebamiji and ADC’s Najeem Salam.
