Osun 2026: NSCDC Deploys 10,000 Personnel Ahead of August 15 Governorship Election

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 10,000 personnel from 10 state commands to Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election.


The deployment, ordered by the NSCDC Commandant-General, Prof. Abubakar Audi, is aimed at strengthening security operations and ensuring a peaceful, free and credible electoral process across the state.


According to the NSCDC, about 1,000 personnel are being drawn from each of the Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Lagos, Kwara, Edo, Kogi, Delta and Federal Capital Territory commands.


The personnel, comprising uniformed and undercover officers, will complement the existing NSCDC workforce in Osun and provide security for voters, electoral officials, observers, journalists and residents across the state's 30 local government areas.


The Corps has also deployed specialised units, including the Commandant-General's Special Intelligence Squad, Special Weapons and Tactics Unit, Specialised Female Squad, Mining Marshals, Special Strike Force, Crack Squad and K9 Unit.


The NSCDC said the specialised units would focus on intelligence gathering, crime prevention, protection of critical infrastructure, crowd control and other election-related security responsibilities.


For effective coordination, the Deputy Commandant-General in charge of Operations, Ayuba Phillip, alongside designated Assistant Commandant-Generals and other senior officers, will relocate to Osun State to supervise the election security operations.


Audi said personnel deployed for the election had been adequately briefed to remain professional, neutral and respectful of citizens' rights throughout the electoral process.


He stressed the importance of protecting election materials, electoral officials and voters, while urging security personnel to maintain effective cooperation with other agencies to ensure a credible election.


The NSCDC Commandant-General also issued a warning to political thugs and other individuals planning to disrupt the election, saying the Corps would not tolerate activities capable of undermining the electoral process.


The Corps urged political parties, candidates, supporters and residents to conduct themselves peacefully and allow the democratic process to take its course.


It further disclosed that it would work closely with the Nigeria Police Force, military and other security agencies under the established inter-agency security framework.


The NSCDC deployment comes amid heightened security preparations for the August 15 Osun governorship election. The Nigeria Police Force had earlier announced the deployment of 15,000 personnel to the state.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area.
