Osun Election Crisis: Egbedun-Led Committee Begins Work, Children of Deceased Victims to Get Scholarships

The Osun State Election Violence Relief Committee, chaired by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, has commenced its assignment with a promise to ensure that victims of election-related violence receive appropriate government support.

The committee held its inaugural meeting on Thursday, August 27, 2026, where Egbedun called on victims of the recent incidents to come forward and submit their cases for consideration.

Speaking at the meeting, the Speaker described the committee’s assignment as humanitarian and sensitive, stressing that its responsibility was to listen to victims, verify genuine claims and facilitate appropriate relief for those who suffered losses during the violence.

Egbedun assured residents that the committee would discharge its duties fairly, transparently and without prejudice, adding that decisions would be based on facts, fairness and compassion.

He disclosed that the committee had already received and collated a number of complaints but urged more victims to come forward.

The Speaker specifically appealed to persons still receiving treatment in hospitals as a result of injuries sustained during the election-related incidents to submit their cases, preferably through relatives or representatives.

He said the committee would liaise with hospitals to establish the condition of affected victims and ensure that those requiring medical attention receive necessary support.

Egbedun further assured victims, their families and hospitals handling their cases that the state government remained committed to taking responsibility for the approved cost of treatment.

The committee chairman also commended the Adeleke Dynasty for its intervention on behalf of children who lost their parents or benefactors during the recent election violence.

According to him, the Adeleke Dynasty, through the Springtime Development Foundation, had indicated its decision to provide scholarships for children of people who lost their lives during the violence.

Egbedun described the gesture as a demonstration of compassion and concern for vulnerable families affected by the incidents.

He said supporting the education of the affected children was one of the enduring ways to honour the memories of their deceased parents, while giving the beneficiaries hope and an opportunity to build a better future.

“As Chairman of the Election Violence Relief Committee, I commend this initiative and assure the Adeleke Dynasty and the Springtime Development Foundation of the Committee’s appreciation and support in ensuring that the gesture reaches the intended beneficiaries transparently and effectively,” he said.

Egbedun reiterated the committee’s commitment to ensuring that genuine victims were not overlooked, promising that the relief process would remain credible, transparent and responsive to the needs of affected residents.

He expressed appreciation to members of the committee for accepting to serve at what he described as a critical moment in the history of the state and prayed for peace and the wellbeing of Osun residents.
