Osun Environment Commissioner, Mayowa Adejoorin, Regains Freedom After Police Detention

The Osun State Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin, has reportedly regained his freedom after spending a night in police detention.


Adejoorin’s release comes a day after reports emerged that the commissioner, who also serves as a campaign leader for Governor Ademola Adeleke in Obokun Local Government, was allegedly arrested by police operatives while leaving Ilesa.


The reported arrest had sparked tension in Ibokun, the headquarters of Obokun Local Government Area, where protesters took to the streets demanding clarification over the commissioner’s whereabouts and circumstances surrounding his detention.


As previously reported, some Accord Party members had accused Senator Francis Fadahunsi and Rep. Wole Oke of allegedly facilitating the commissioner’s arrest through the police. The allegations have not been independently verified, and the lawmakers have not been confirmed to have responded to the claims.


The circumstances leading to Adejoorin’s detention and subsequent release remain unclear as of the time of filing this report.


His release is, however, expected to ease tensions in the area as political activities intensify ahead of the August 15 Osun State governorship election.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
