Oyebamiji Raises Alarm Over Alleged Attacks on APC Members, Urges Calm After Osun Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, has called on party members and supporters to remain calm and peaceful following the conclusion of the election.

Oyebamiji, in a statement issued on Monday, August 17, thanked APC leaders, members, supporters, volunteers and voters across the state for their commitment and sacrifices throughout the campaign.

He acknowledged that the party had hoped for a different electoral outcome but said he respected the position of the electoral umpire while expressing support for the APC's ongoing review of the election results.

“Although, we had hoped for a different outcome in the election, in the meantime, we respect the position of the electoral umpire and I totally support the decision of our party in its ongoing review of the outcome of the election,” he said.

The former Commissioner for Finance also expressed appreciation to voters who supported his campaign, describing their confidence in the alternative vision presented by the APC as deeply valued.

He commended party leaders and members who mobilised support across the state, as well as volunteers who contributed their time and energy to the campaign.

According to Oyebamiji, although the campaign and election have ended, the values and development agenda promoted by his team remain relevant.

“The campaign has come to an end and the election is over, but the values and causes we championed are alive. We would continue to work for effective, inclusive and rapid development of our dear Osun,” he stated.

He urged APC members and supporters to remain engaged in their communities, continue organising and stay committed to the collective development of the state.

Oyebamiji, however, raised concern over what he described as an increasing wave of hostility and violence allegedly targeting APC members and supporters following the election.

He claimed that attacks witnessed during the build-up to the election had taken a new dimension within the 24 hours preceding his statement.

“The violent attacks on our members witnessed in the build-up to the election has taken another dimension in the last 24 hours,” he alleged.

He consequently called on the Osun State Government, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to urgently intervene and prevent further incidents.

“Consequently, I urge the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to intervene and arrest this ugly trend without delay,” he said.

Oyebamiji further appealed to APC members to remain peaceful and law-abiding while the party reviews the outcome of the election and as events unfold.

He concluded by thanking voters, supporters, party members and leaders for their “unwavering commitment, sacrifice, and support,” adding that he remained proud of the campaign conducted by his team.
