Peter Obi, Kwankwaso Congratulate Adeleke on Osun Re-election, Commend Voters

Former Kano State Governor and 2027 New Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

Kwankwaso, in a congratulatory message, described Adeleke as a friend and commended the people of Osun State for exercising their democratic rights and reaffirming the power of the electorate.

The former governor, who described himself as a leader of the opposition and a committed democrat, said the election outcome demonstrated that citizens could make their voices heard through the ballot box.

He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its conduct of the election, while urging political actors and other stakeholders to continue supporting credible, peaceful and transparent electoral processes.

“Congratulations once again to Governor Adeleke and the good people of Osun State,” Kwankwaso said.

Similarly, Obi congratulated Adeleke and the people of Osun, describing the governor’s victory as a significant democratic achievement under the theme, “When the People Stand, Democracy Wins.”

The former Anambra State governor said the people of Osun had “spoken with courage and clarity,” exercising their constitutional right to determine who governs them.

According to Obi, Adeleke’s commitment to the people, responsiveness to their needs and achievements in office contributed to the confidence reposed in him by voters.

He particularly commended Osun youths for what he described as their peaceful and courageous defence of their democratic mandate, saying their vigilance demonstrated the importance of citizens protecting the integrity of their votes.

Obi also urged Nigerians to remain politically engaged ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling on citizens to participate actively in the electoral process, vote and protect their ballots.

He said Nigerians facing economic hardship, insecurity and other challenges could use their votes to demand accountability and political change.

The NDC presidential candidate further urged political leaders to place the interests of Nigerians above partisan considerations and embrace peace, unity and the rule of law.

“Elections should never be battles of violence, but contests of ideas, competence, character, and service,” Obi stated.

He expressed hope that the Osun election would strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic process and encourage citizens to remain actively involved in building a just, secure, prosperous and people-centred nation.
