Tinubu Congratulates Adeleke, Says Osun Election Reflects People’s Will

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, describing the outcome of the August 15 governorship election as a reflection of the will of the people.


Tinubu conveyed his congratulatory message in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. The President also disclosed that he had personally called Adeleke to congratulate him on his victory.


According to the President, Adeleke’s victory demonstrated the confidence the people of Osun State have in his leadership. He urged the governor to use his second term to unite residents of the state, irrespective of their political affiliations, and mobilise them towards growth, stability and socio-economic development.


Tinubu also commended the other contestants for their participation, noting that their involvement contributed to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic culture.


“The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” the President said.


The President further commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for conducting what he described as a peaceful and transparent election that produced a clear winner.


Adeleke, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, was declared winner by the State Returning Officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, at about 7:24am on Sunday.


The governor secured 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. Adeleke won 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11. African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.


The result secured Adeleke a second term in office after he was first elected governor in 2022 under the Peoples Democratic Party before defecting to the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 election.


Earlier on Sunday, Adeleke thanked Tinubu for calling to congratulate him and reaffirmed his support for the President’s bid for a second term in the 2027 presidential election, describing Tinubu as a son of Osun State.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
