Tinubu Phones Adeleke, Directs EFCC to Lift Freeze on Osun Accounts

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu personally informed Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, of his directive to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to vacate the court order freezing the state's bank accounts.

According to a statement shared on Thursday by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, via his Facebook page, Tinubu conveyed the decision during a telephone conversation with Governor Adeleke.

Onanuga disclosed that the President called the Osun governor to notify him that he had directed the EFCC to immediately take steps to lift the court order freezing the Osun State Government's accounts.

The development comes shortly after President Tinubu issued a State House statement ordering the anti-graft agency to return to court and vacate the order, citing concerns over the timing of the action ahead of the August 15 Osun governorship election.

The President had maintained that while he remained committed to the independence of anti-corruption agencies, no action should create the impression that federal institutions were being used to influence the electoral process.

Tinubu stressed that preserving public confidence in the credibility and fairness of the forthcoming governorship election was of overriding national interest, prompting his intervention in the matter.

Onanuga's disclosure provides fresh insight into the President's direct communication with Governor Adeleke following the controversial freezing of the state's accounts by the EFCC.
