Tinubu Treks to Office, Eats Once Daily, NRS Boss Says

The Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), Zacch Adedeji, has defended President Bola Tinubu against claims that Nigerian political leaders live extravagant lifestyles amid the country’s economic challenges.

Adedeji said the President does not live lavishly despite his position, insisting that Tinubu maintains a modest lifestyle and remains focused on his official responsibilities.

The NRS chairman made the disclosure during an interview with Channels Television on Sunday, while responding to questions from journalist Seun Okinbaloye about the lifestyles of political office holders and government spending.

According to Adedeji, Tinubu often walks from his residence to his office and only uses a vehicle when travelling to the airport.

He also claimed that the President eats only once a day and had not travelled outside Nigeria in the past three months.

Responding to questions about the number of luxury vehicles, particularly Escalades, reportedly attached to the President’s convoy, Adedeji questioned why the President should be criticised for using such vehicles.

He argued that the President, by virtue of his office, could afford the vehicles, adding that the focus should not be on the type of car attached to his convoy.

“Mr President goes from home to office on foot, not even driving except when he is going to the airport,” Adedeji said, according to the report.

He further argued that Tinubu had remained largely focused on his duties, saying the President could be found reviewing official documents rather than attending parties or going on holidays.

Adedeji’s comments come amid growing public concerns over the cost of governance and the lifestyles of political office holders at a time Nigerians continue to grapple with rising living costs and economic pressures.

The NRS boss maintained that the President’s activities did not reflect the extravagant lifestyle being attributed to political leaders.
