2027: Students, Youths Rally Behind Olajengbesi For Obokun/Oriade Reps Seat

Students and youths under the Pelumi Olajengbesi Students and Youth Network have declared their support for the ambition of legal practitioner and philanthropist, Pelumi Olajengbesi, to represent the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives in 2027.

The group said its decision was informed by what it described as the need for a fresh approach to legislative representation and renewed attention to the development needs of the constituency.

Speaking on the development, the Coordinating Director of the network, Gbenga Olaleye, said Obokun/Oriade had experienced what he described as inadequate development and ineffective representation in some critical areas despite the constituency’s long history of representation at the National Assembly.

Olaleye said, “Since 1999, our constituency has had representation, including one of the longest-serving members of the House, yet we have not seen the level of development and effective representation our people deserve compared with other constituencies.”

He described the situation in some sectors across the constituency as “moribund”, arguing that stakeholders needed to come together to change the narrative.

According to him, the network’s endorsement of Olajengbesi was based largely on his engagement with young people and students, as well as his perceived capacity to bring a different approach to legislative representation.

“This is not just about one individual. It is about the future of Oriade and Obokun and the kind of representation we want,” Olaleye said.

Also speaking, the Director of Media and Publicity of the network, Segun Amure, said the group was seeking purposeful, accessible and responsive representation that would place the interests of constituents at the centre of legislative engagement.

Amure urged youths and other stakeholders to participate actively in the 2027 political process and scrutinise aspirants based on their competence, character, track record and vision.

He added that the network would continue its engagements with stakeholders and mobilise support for Olajengbesi while promoting constructive conversations about the future of the constituency.

The Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency comprises Obokun and Oriade Local Government Areas of Osun State.
