Adeleke Jets Out on Vacation, Orders Probe into Koka Chieftaincy Dispute

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Sunday departed Nigeria for a vacation in Europe, directing the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate the emerging dispute over the kingship of Koka Ilase in Obokun Local Government Area of the state.


According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke left the country through the Lagos airport and is expected to visit the United Kingdom and other destinations during the vacation.


The statement said the governor would also undergo medical examinations as part of the trip.


Adeleke, while speaking before his departure, said the vacation was intended to enable him to refresh and prepare for further service to the people of the state.


“I am taking a short break to refresh and get further prepared to serve the good people of Osun State,” the governor was quoted as saying.


However, the governor directed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate reports concerning the appointment of another monarch for Koka Ilase, which has reportedly created a situation involving two claimants to the traditional stool.


Adeleke ordered the ministry to examine the circumstances surrounding the development and ensure that due process was followed in accordance with the state’s chieftaincy laws and traditional customs.


“I read of another King appointed outside the one on the stool. The ministry is hereby directed to look into the dispute and issue a report to set the records straight,” he stated.


The governor also appealed to stakeholders in the community to remain calm while the ministry conducts its investigation.


He stressed that traditional institutions were governed by existing laws and regulations, promising that his administration would uphold the law and respect the traditions of the people.


“I however urge all stakeholders to remain peaceful as the ministry does the needful. Kingship is governed by extant laws and regulations and the government will stand by the law and tradition of our people,” Adeleke said.


The directive comes amid growing concerns over the reported emergence of two monarchs in Koka Ilase, with the state government seeking to establish the facts surrounding the development and resolve the matter in line with applicable laws and traditional procedures.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election
