Apple unveils first foldable iPhone, iPhone 18 series

Apple has unveiled its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, alongside the new iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.


The new devices were unveiled on Wednesday at Apple’s product event, marking a major redesign of the company’s flagship smartphone line.


The iPhone Duo features a foldable design with a 7.6-inch continuous display when fully opened, making it Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet, according to the company.


When folded, the device has a screen roughly the size of a passport. Apple has also repositioned controls, including the home-screen dock and status indicators, to the right side of the display for easier access.


Introducing the device, Apple’s new Chief Executive Officer, John Ternus, criticised existing foldable smartphones, saying they felt like “two phones awkwardly stuck together.”


The launch was Ternus’ first major Apple product event since succeeding Tim Cook as the company’s chief executive earlier in September.


The iPhone Duo is expected to cost more than $2,000, according to The Independent, making it significantly more expensive than Apple’s conventional flagship models.


Apple also introduced the iPhone 18 Pro, starting at $1,199, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which starts at $1,299.


The new prices are higher than those of last year’s iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, which started at $1,099 and $1,199 respectively.


The iPhone 18 Pro features a variable-aperture camera that allows users to adjust the amount of light entering the lens. Apple also introduced a new thermal management system designed to help regulate the devices’ temperature.


Beyond the iPhone lineup, Apple unveiled new AirPods and Apple Watch models during the event.


The AirPods 5 come with improved sound quality and noise cancellation, as well as Siri artificial intelligence features, including live translation.


Apple also announced the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, which received new health and artificial intelligence features.


Among the additions is a “Readiness” score that combines users’ recent activity, vital signs and sleep data.


The watches will also feature an Audio Intelligence function capable of identifying sounds such as sirens and alarms. Apple said the audio recordings would not be stored and would be protected with end-to-end encryption.


The event marked a significant moment for Apple as Ternus made his first keynote presentation as chief executive, unveiling the company’s latest products and setting out his vision for its next phase.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
