The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has given the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), seven days to provide evidence for his alleged claim that the former governor planned killings in Southern Kaduna.


The family also demanded a public retraction and apology from the minister, threatening legal action if he fails to comply.


The demand was contained in a statement issued on Monday by Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai on behalf of the family.


Musa allegedly made the claim during a live appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on September 3, 2026.


According to the family, the Defence Minister alleged that El-Rufai actively planned killings in Southern Kaduna while serving as governor of Kaduna State.


The family described the allegation as a “grave” claim that was made without evidence during the television programme.


It said while Musa had the right to express his opinion, allegations of such magnitude should be backed by credible evidence.


“While General Musa (Rtd.) is entitled to hold and express his personal opinions, the El-Rufai family is equally entitled to demand that such serious allegations be substantiated with credible evidence,” the statement said.


The family therefore challenged Musa to produce evidence supporting the allegation or retract it publicly through the same medium where it was made.


It gave the minister seven days, beginning from September 7, to either substantiate the allegation or issue a full public retraction and apology.


The family warned that failure to do so would result in it pursuing “all appropriate legal remedies” available under the law.


“Failure to do so will leave the family with no option but to pursue all appropriate legal remedies available under the law in response to these unsubstantiated allegations,” the statement added.


El-Rufai, a former FCT minister, served as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023 and is currently identified by the family as an opposition leader of the African Democratic Congress.


The statement was signed by Mohammed Bello El-Rufai in Abuja on behalf of the former governor’s family.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election
