Ebonyi Gov Fires Works Commissioner, Orders Immediate Handover

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has removed the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam, from office with immediate effect.


The governor’s decision was announced on Saturday in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor. 


According to the statement, Nwifuru directed the former commissioner to immediately hand over all government property in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the Secretary to the State Government.


Mbam was also directed to transfer his responsibilities to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works.


The state government did not disclose any reason for the commissioner’s removal.


The development comes months after Mbam was suspended by Governor Nwifuru in February 2026 over alleged dereliction of duty, slow project delivery and lapses in the Ministry of Works. He was later recalled in May and resumed his position. 


His latest removal therefore marks another disciplinary action against the commissioner under the Nwifuru administration.


The governor, however, assured residents that his administration remained focused on delivering effective governance and improving public infrastructure. 


No replacement for Mbam had been announced at the time of filing this report.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
