FG Approves JAMB Takeover Of HND Admissions

The Federal Government has approved the takeover of the admission process for Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The development is aimed at bringing HND admissions under a centralised system and strengthening the regulation of admission processes in polytechnics across the country.

The move is expected to address irregularities associated with admissions and ensure that candidates seeking HND programmes are properly captured within the national admissions framework.

JAMB already has a statutory mandate to regulate admissions into Nigeria’s tertiary institutions and operates the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) for admission processing. 

The Federal Government has in recent times intensified efforts to tackle illegal and irregular admissions, with the Ministry of Education raising concerns over thousands of candidates admitted outside approved processes.

The new arrangement therefore expected to improve transparency, accountability and uniformity in HND admissions while reducing cases of unapproved admissions by institutions.

The development will also further strengthen JAMB’s role in coordinating admissions and maintaining reliable records of students admitted into tertiary institutions nationwide.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit. The development marks another early gain for Accord as the collation of results from polling units across Osun State continues.
