Peter Obi Marks 65th Birthday by Providing Free Surgeries for 65 Children

Former Anambra State Governor and 2027 presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has marked his 65th birthday by facilitating 65 free surgeries for children in Lagos.

Obi disclosed this in a statement following the final follow-up clinic and appreciation programme held at Mother Mary Hospital, Isolo, Lagos, where he expressed gratitude to God for the successful completion of the medical intervention.

According to him, all 65 children underwent successful surgeries, with the procedures led by Dr Folaseye Adebayo and her medical team.

The surgeries included adenotonsillectomy, a procedure involving the removal of enlarged or chronically infected tonsils and adenoids, which can contribute to breathing difficulties, recurrent infections and sleep-related problems in children.

Obi said the initiative was particularly meaningful after listening to testimonies from parents about improvements in their children's health and overall quality of life following the surgeries.

He expressed appreciation to Dr Adebayo and her team, the management of Mother Mary Hospital, the parents and others who contributed to the success of the initiative.

“For me, birthdays are not merely occasions for celebration. They are opportunities to give back, touch lives, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others,” Obi said.

He added that he considered it a privilege to be part of an initiative that provided medical care to children, describing the beneficiaries as “65 healthy and hopeful children.”

Obi, who signed off the statement with his campaign slogan, “A New Nigeria is Possible,” also prayed for continued blessings for medical professionals and others committed to saving and improving lives.

The initiative comes as Obi, a former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, continues preparations for the 2027 presidential election under the NDC platform.
