Police Launch App for Nigerians to Report, Track Fraud Cases

The Nigeria Police Force has launched a new digital platform, the NPF Vigilant App, to enable Nigerians to report suspected financial fraud, submit evidence, track cases and receive feedback.


Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, unveiled the application on Tuesday alongside the NPF–MTN Closed User Group (CUG) Network at the NPF Conference Centre in Jabi, Abuja. 


The Vigilant App was developed by the Force ICT Department in collaboration with stakeholders in the financial services sector. It is designed to facilitate the reporting of suspected fraud and coordination with relevant institutions in accordance with existing laws and procedures. 


The NPF–MTN CUG Network, meanwhile, provides police officers across the country with secure and affordable communication to improve emergency coordination and operational response.


Disu described the two initiatives as a practical step in the police’s digital transformation programme, saying the Vigilant App would strengthen engagement with citizens while the CUG Network would improve communication among police personnel.


The Inspector-General stressed that technology must be deployed lawfully, ethically and responsibly, with due regard for citizens’ rights, privacy, data protection and accountability.


The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology, Fayoade Mustapha, said the initiatives demonstrated the Force’s commitment to technology-driven solutions aimed at improving service delivery and public engagement.


He urged Nigerians to download the NPF Vigilant App from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store and use it responsibly to report suspected financial fraud. 


The launch was attended by representatives of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion, Police Service Commission, Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System, financial institutions, fintech companies, MTN Nigeria and other partners.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
