Premier League Referees Admit Error in Haaland’s Goal Against Man United

Professional referees’ body, the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), has admitted an “error of judgement” in the decision to allow Erling Haaland’s goal during Manchester City’s Premier League clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.


The clarification followed an incident in the 60th minute of the match, with PGMOL explaining that the initial on-field decision had been an offside call against Haaland.


According to the officials, VAR subsequently reviewed the incident and determined that the Manchester City striker was in an onside position.


However, PGMOL said the review established that Enzo Fernandez did not play the ball during the same attacking move, making the potential offside offence a subjective decision.


The refereeing body admitted that VAR failed to properly recognise the likely impact of Fernandez’s position and should have recommended that the referee conduct an on-field review.


PGMOL said it had contacted Manchester United to acknowledge what it described as an “error of judgement”, adding that the incident would be subjected to a further review.


The admission is expected to intensify scrutiny of the officiating and VAR process following the controversial decision.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area.
