Tinubu Wanted Me on APC Ticket, But Oyetola Opposed My Return — Ajagunla

Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, popularly known as Ajagunla, has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wanted him to return to the Senate on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), but Osun APC leader Adegboyega Oyetola opposed the move. 


Fadeyi, who represents Osun Central Senatorial District, was elected in 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He later defected to the APC alongside Senator Francis Fadahunsi and three members of the House of Representatives from Osun State. 


According to Ajagunla, while Fadahunsi and the three federal lawmakers received automatic return tickets, he was not given the APC senatorial ticket for Osun Central. The ticket was eventually secured by former governorship aspirant and lawyer, Kunle Adegoke, SAN. 


Speaking during an interview on a private television programme in Osogbo, Fadeyi said he sought clarification after losing the ticket and was told that Tinubu had wanted him to return, but Oyetola opposed the arrangement.


> “The President wants me to return, but Oyetola, in his own wisdom, doesn’t want that,” Fadeyi said. 


The senator, however, acknowledged Oyetola’s position as the leader of the APC in Osun, saying the former governor had the right to present his political strategy to the President on how the party could win elections in the state.


Fadeyi also suggested that electoral considerations may have influenced the decision, pointing to major local government areas such as Osogbo, Ede, Ife and Iwo as crucial to winning elections.


Following the denial of the APC ticket, Ajagunla has returned to the PDP and secured the party’s senatorial ticket for Osun Central.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit.
