Zulum Commissions 42-Room Patients’ Apartment, Hands Facility Over to UMTH

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has commissioned and handed over a newly constructed 42-room patients’ apartment to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), as part of his administration’s efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the state.


The facility, constructed by the Borno State Government, is designed to provide accommodation for relatives and visitors of patients receiving treatment at the teaching hospital, particularly those who travel from distant communities.


The latest intervention adds to several projects and financial support provided by the Zulum administration to strengthen healthcare services at UMTH.


Previously, the governor presented a ₦100 million cheque to the hospital to address funding gaps relating to medical consumables and other essential needs.


The state government also constructed 24 three-bedroom residential apartments for medical personnel at the hospital, aimed at addressing accommodation challenges and enabling healthcare workers to remain closer to their patients.


In another major intervention, Zulum approved ₦1 billion in financial support for kidney transplant and maternal healthcare services at UMTH.


The governor also provided a ₦500 million intervention following the 2024 flood disaster to support the hospital’s recovery and continued operations.


Beyond UMTH, Zulum’s administration has extended interventions to federal institutions and agencies operating in Borno State.


The governor has provided thousands of patrol vehicles to security agencies and formations to strengthen security operations across the state, while also constructing residential quarters and other infrastructure at the University of Maiduguri.


The administration has further approved hundreds of millions of naira in take-off grants for the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Azare; Federal Polytechnic, Monguno; and Federal College of Education, Gwoza.


Speaking on the development, the Chief Medical Director of UMTH, Prof. Ahmed Ahidjo, expressed appreciation to Governor Zulum for his continued support and described his interventions as significant to the hospital’s operations and service delivery.


Zulum was accompanied during the commissioning by the Acting Chief of Staff, Dr. Babagana Mustapha Mallumbe; members of the State Executive Council; special advisers and other senior government officials.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit. The development marks another early gain for Accord as the collation of results from polling units across Osun State continues.
