The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has accused armed political thugs allegedly linked to the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji, of unleashing violence across parts of Osogbo on Tuesday, leaving one person dead and several others injured.

In a statement signed by the party's state chairman, Pastor Victor Babalola Akande, Accord alleged that the attackers, travelling in a convoy of branded campaign buses, opened fire on residents and motorists from the Akoda area through Oke-Fia, causing panic and forcing people to flee for safety.

The party claimed that the violence escalated at Owode-Ede, where a trader was reportedly struck by a bullet and died at the scene. It further alleged that more than three persons sustained serious gunshot wounds and were receiving treatment at undisclosed hospitals, while several others suffered varying degrees of injuries.

According to the statement, eyewitnesses alleged that the assailants targeted individuals believed to be supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke, particularly those wearing items associated with the governor's political camp.

Accord also cited a video circulating online in which a man receiving treatment for gunshot injuries allegedly identified APC supporters and members of the AMBO political movement as those responsible for the attack.

The party condemned the incident, describing it as a dangerous escalation of political violence and a threat to democracy, public safety and peace in the state.

It called on the Inspector-General of Police to launch an immediate investigation into the allegations and prosecute anyone found culpable, irrespective of political affiliation.

Accord also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and ensure that political actors in the state conduct themselves peacefully ahead of future electoral contests.

As of press time, there had been no official response from the APC, Bola Oyebamiji's campaign organisation, the police, or other security agencies regarding the allegations.

"No election is worth the life of any citizen," the statement said, urging security agencies to take proactive measures to prevent further violence and reassure residents of their safety.
