“Stop the Bloodshed in Ilesa” — Ijesa Youth Forum Raises Alarm Over Rising Killings, Demands Urgent Security Action
By Abdulahi Musa
The Ijesa Youth Forum (IYF) has strongly condemned the recent killings recorded in Ilesa, describing the incidents as alarming and a growing threat to peace, safety, and community stability in the area.
In a press statement dated June 17, 2026, and signed by the Acting President, Aderonke Simiat Gbadamosi, the youth body expressed deep concern over what it termed the deteriorating security situation in Ilesa and its surrounding communities within Ijesaland.
The forum noted that the recent wave of killings not only represents a tragic loss of lives but also poses a serious risk to the reputation of the community as a peaceful and welcoming environment. It warned that continued insecurity could discourage indigenes in the diaspora from returning home, investing, or visiting the area.
“We strongly condemn the recent killings that occurred in Ilesa and express our deep concern over the growing threat to the safety of lives and property within our community,” the statement read.
The group called on all relevant security agencies to intensify efforts to ensure the protection of residents and to bring perpetrators of the violence to justice without delay.
Emphasizing the broader economic implications of insecurity, the forum stressed that peace remains a fundamental requirement for development, noting that no meaningful progress can be achieved in an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty.
The youth body further appealed to traditional rulers, community elders, and other stakeholders to collaborate in finding lasting solutions to the recurring security challenges. It urged collective action aimed at addressing the root causes of violence and preventing future occurrences.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims during this difficult time. We remain committed to supporting all efforts aimed at preserving peace, security, and development across Ilesa and the entirety of Ijesaland,” the statement added.
The statement was jointly signed through the General Secretary, Fagbowore Medayese, and the Spokesperson, Joy Adebimpe Bepo, reaffirming the forum’s commitment to peacebuilding and community development across Ijesaland.
